independent breaks in Tuscany

Events in Lucca and around Tuscany

We will be offering a number of group holidays for cookery, photography, walking and painting holidays. There are numerous events going on during the year in and around Lucca. Here are a few that may be of interest.

Visit Lucca

Santa Croce Procession

Lucca in September is also a special place as it's taken back in time with to the middle-ages; there are special concerts, markets, shows, exhibitions and processions, with the undoubted highlight being the Luminaria di Santa Croce on the night of the 13th. The centre of Lucca is lit by torch and candlelight alone and there is an enormous procession, largely in period costume, with music, the famous flag-juggling, and the return of Lucchesi from the world over. The procession starts at the church of San Frediano(at 8.00 PM)and proceeds to the cathedral of San Martino to celebrate the Volto Santo.....best to double check closer ot the time though!

Antique market in Lucca

On the third weekend of each month Lucca hosts a huge antique market centered on Piazza San Giusto. Among the best antique shops is Galleria Vannucci, which features local 17th- and 18th-century furnishings and drawings, Via del Battistero, 50/52; Phone (39-0583) 955-815. There is an attractive craft fair, also in Piazza San Giusto, on the last weekend of every month.
