TITLE: An absolutely wonderful retreat! Rated *****
We stayed in Il Capriccio for a week at the end of June. It is a very tastefully renovated property with all modern appliances and it provided excellent accommodation for us. The house was spotlessly clean, extremely well equipped and with lovely views over the village and beyond from the terrace at the front. Celle is situated in a beautiful, peaceful village setting and is a welcome escape from the throngs of tourists in busier towns and cities. The large heated pool is fantastic. There are hammocks to relax on as well as sun loungers around the pool and plenty equipment for the younger visitors to play with. The garden areas are immaculately kept and the views across the hills are amazing.
Gill and Ken provide the all-important human touch and are genuinely lovely hosts. They give you a warm welcome and are on hand to make you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your stay. They have provided all their guests with a substantial information pack covering suggestions for day trips, restaurants etc.
Celle is within easy reach of Lucca, where it is possible to hire bikes to cycle round the city walls ? great fun! We also enjoyed a visit to the gardens at Villa Reale at Marlia and a drive north through beautiful countryside to the Devil?s Bridge at Borga del Mozzano and on to Barga.
The Molin del Volpe and La Fonte restaurants are within easy reach of Celle and we can?t recommend them both highly enough.
This was our third visit to Celle. We didn?t want to leave and we have already rebooked for next September. I guess that says it all really!
TITLE - Simply the best Rated *****
One of the best vacations we have ever had. The villa has a breathtaking view like something you'd see in a travel magazine. The location was great, because the major cities like Florence, Siena, and Rome, could be done in a day trip. Not only that, but there was plenty to do in town. The villa is also ideal for just spending a whole day relaxing by the pool and cooking dinner in the fully furnished and stocked kitchen. Fresh fruit and local wine were waiting for us when we arrived. There's also a grocery store just a few minutes away where you can pick up more groceries and any other items you may need. Whats more, the hosts are one of the most genuine and heartfelt people you will ever meet. They have no problem with showing you the region and telling you the best spots to visit in Italy. Ultimately, it is the best option if you want a genuine Tuscan experience and for a headquarters for your Italian Adventure.
TITLE - Picturesque, relaxing, and great hospitality Rated *****
This is a first for me - a five star review! I normally consider a four star review as excellent as there's always room for improvement. Not in this case. They have thought of all the small details so you don't have to. Obviously this is a fantastic location - peaceful, beautiful, relaxing… I could go on. But also the little things like washing up liquid, salt, sugar and oil. The well equipped kitchen. The comfortable beds. All the modern features, but still retaining that Tuscan charm. There are so many restaurants in the area that we did not have time to sample them - we will have to come back.
The downsides? Well you must have a car and be able to walk up the steps or slope to the village. We were there when it was very hot, so I'd consider going outside school holidays.

This was our second visit to Gill and Ken's fantastic property. The location is perfect for a getaway-from-it-all retreat. The accommodation is excellent, clean and well-maintained and Gill and Ken have thought of everything you might need to make it a home-from-home. The kitchen is very well equipped including cool-bags for picnics and charcoal for the barbecue. If you don't fancy cooking there is a lovely restaurant in the village and great places to visit for sightseeing. Gill and Ken are superb hosts, very thoughtful and generous. I heartily recommend them and their property.
TITLE - Bliss Rated *****
We have stayed here twice on family holidays with teenagers and we intend to return. The house is delightful - full of character, comfortable, spotless and well-equipped - and the village and area are beautiful with plenty to do. Gill and Ken are the very best of hosts: friendly and welcoming and extremely knowledgable. A real find.
TITLE - Can't Fault it Rated *****
From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed by our hosts Gill and Ken who were helpful and friendly without hovering around us constantly. The accommodation (Filomena) was very beautifully renovated and with all the comforts of home that you could think of. The booklet in the lounge room was especially handy, it told us of all the sights we could go and see and more importantly, all the restaurants and supermarkets that were close by. As it is located up in the hills, once you were home for the night, that was it! So having directions to the local supermarket was a real bonus. We had a fantastic time and I would recommend Gill and Ken's accommodation to anyone. Fair warning though, you will need a car, I think relying on a bus would be impossible.
TITLE - A Truly Tuscan experience Rated *****
This is our second visit to villa Filomena in Celle and we were welcomed with the smell of Jasmine and of course Gill and Ken to ensure we had any help we needed. The village is just beautiful, decorated with potted plants and spring water on tap to quench your thirst after travelling. From the villa there are breathtaking views over the mountains and our children excitedly checked for a glimpse of the golden eagles daily!
The villa is rustic and typically Tuscan, all of the rooms are spacious and clean. The kitchen is really well stocked with cooking gadgets, my ten year old decided to try his hand at a merangue and everything we needed was there. The foresight and attention to detail is very apparent with everything you may (or may not) need on hand... For example a well stocked first aid kit, citronella candles, bug spray, cling film, salt and pepper, olive oil, loo roll......the list goes on......
A very informative and up to date information pack is in the villa which is invaluable for planning trips out, meals and even just a trip to the shops. Gill and Ken speak fluent Italian and are experts on the local area so if you need a little help with booking a restaurant of directions to get somewhere they are a great help!
My only concern is that by writing this very deserved faultless review the next time we go to book Filomina you will have beaten us to it!
TITLE - Celle Rated *****
My family enjoyed another week in Celle this year. Ken and Gill are fabulous hosts, taking the time to share recommendations and organise outings if required. The accommodation is spacious and furnished to a very high standard. Our girls (13 and 11 years) love the pool, hammocks and croquet and have made friends both times we have stayed. Celle is well placed for Lucca and Pisa and the coast but you probably won't want to leave very much as it is so peaceful and beautiful. Can't recommend the place more highly :-)
