An impressive deep canyon, sometimes extremely narrow, crossed by an abundant torrent which forms deeps pools and numerous waterfalls.

There is a picnic area close to the river and the opportunity of visiting the canyon with nature guides or, if your mountain knowledge allows you, by yourselves equipped with everything you need for a very demanding excursion, with requires crossings through the ice-cold (even during the summer) waters of the torrent and challenging passages. There are 4 routes and they can be taken in stages.1st stage takes 30 mins and then a further 15 mins to the 2nd. to complete the route is approx 120 mins – but remember…. you have to come back again!!! On the 4th stage the very difficult mountain path begins. A special permit is required for this stage. Good trainers are required – walking boots can become heavy as you are in the ice cold water for most of the time.

There is a restaurant called Il Nido dell‘aquila (The Eagles Nest) set in the middle of nowhere at the junction where the road meets the river! The restaurant is only open from 1st June – 30th September from 9am – 6.30pm and on Sat and Sun in the evening – by booking only. At the restaurant we ate Macaroni with Porcini mushrooms – The very best I have tasted!
