FATTORIA IL POGGIO – MONTECARLO
This is a more ‘relaxed’ way of wine tasting and can partake in more of a ‘meal’
Ken and I sat under the trees in the shade and ordered the cold lunch. We paid €20 each for the cold lunch which consisted of prosciutto, salami, cheese, homemade crostini, olives, pickles and crusty bread to try their olive oil etc., Homemade almond fresh biscuits (not the teeth breaking version you so often buy in packets!) to dip into the Vin Santo – everything was delicious. They cater for vegetarians and gluten free as well, so if you fall into either of these categories – you are not excluded!!!. The price included the wine tasting which consisted of 3 whites and 3 reds, dessert wine and grappa!
They also have a hot lunch menu if you would like to make it your main meal of the day. I should point out that the cold lunch was very generous and we didn’t eat again in the evening! No-one fussed over us or pressurised us to buy the wine. It was perfectly relaxed. The wines are sensibly priced and if you wish to buy them, you pay for them with your meal after you have eaten at the Cantina. www.fattoriailpoggio.net
FATTORIA DI FUBBIANO.
There are many places to experience wine tasting, and only a few kilometres from Lucca lies the FATTORIA DI FUBBIANO. The Fubbiano farm boasts a panoramic view of its 45 hectares of vineyards, olive groves and woodland. The estate produces 6 Colline Lucceshi D.O.C. certified wines along with a renowned ‘Supertuscan’.
For 3 generations, skilled growers have helped retain the secrets of the traditional art of winemaking, using their passion and expertise to give the Fubbiano wines their distintive character and refined quality.
Other than wine, the Fubbiana estate produces a very high quality extra virgin olive oil, which is not only known as one of the best in Tuscany and Italy, but also throughout the world. www.fattoriadifubbiano.it
The Fattorria warmly invites guests to participate in wine and oil tastings, and, of course a knowledgeable guided tour of its wine cellars. The tour take between 2-2 1/2 hours and samples the local salami and cheeses to compliment the different wines and oils.
The cost per person is €20 Euros and from previous guests reports have highly recommended the experience as being one the best they have had!
